HISTORY OF WILLOW BEND
Before it was a subdivision, this was the Calder farm on the Meridian bench. An irrigation lateral of the Nampa–Meridian Irrigation District ran the south edge of the property, and a corridor of willows had taken the banks for the better part of a century. The name stayed with the water after the farm was gone.
Westfield Homes recorded the Willow Bend plat in Ada County in June 2004: 186 acres in four phases, three hundred forty lots along the lateral and the new loop roads. The City of Meridian annexed the property in 2008. Owners incorporated as Willow Bend Homeowners Association, Inc. in 2006.
The street character is shou sugi ban: Japanese charred cedar on most street elevations, steel windows, standing-seam roofs, and naturalistic grasses in the park strips. The black is the plat. The green is the planting. The clubhouse follows the same cladding, low and linear, with the pool and ornamental-grass beds as its front garden.
Private lots are the owners’. The water, the willows, and the roads inside the gates are the association’s.
